What is a BOS: Book of Shadows - A journal or book of a witch’s spells.
Me, I personally prefer to use Book of Light and Shadow. This says to me that both the easy and the difficult morally and skillfully are within. I use the Latin since that to me conjures the images and mystique that I like to endow my magick with in a more intense fashion.
There are no really OLD books of shadows since magick was so dangerous for so long that people didn’t write anything down. The druids were purely and oral tradition. Some medieval mages kept a BOS called a Grimiore. Grimriore is old frrench for Grammar. The old French word came from the Latin word Grammatica or Grammaticus.
In Latin a Book of Shadows may be “ Liber de Umbra”
My Book of Light and Shadows is titled: “Codex Lumina et Umbra”
Keep your spells, charms, rituals, magick learning, anything you want in yours. Everything in mine besides my spells is on this site. This is a journal of your journey in the craft as well as a recipe book. After a while you may find yourself with three for four books because of the amount of information.
My perfected version would have several volumes
Book of Words = Chants, invocations, prayers, songs, wise words, charges, etc Book of Rituals and Rites= Self Explanatory Book of Correspondences= Again, Self Explanatory Book of Healing= All about healing herbs, stones, and how to make medicines. Book of Spells= Duh! Book of Who and What= Dictionary and A listing of all the Gods and Goddesses I can add. Book of Lessons= All the things I learned in life and craft. This is the progress Journal.
The only two things I will not include for you is my personal spells and my book of lessons.
